Ruminant sector

Cattle, goats, sheep

In animal production, each species has its own challenges. In cattle, in particular, there are several issues surrounding the dairy cow.

The main challenge is to make the breeding of heifers profitable during their dairy careers. This means influencing their age at first calving, improving their productivity and longevity, and increasing the amount of milk they produce per day of life.

To improve the profitability of a dairy herd, the ideal is to reach an average lactation stage of 3, with 35% of dairy cows at 4 lactations or more, but also an average herd age of 5.5 years, and less than 25% of heifers in 1st lactation.
