Our plant extracts

Phytogenic products are ingredients and additives derived from plants, used in animal nutrition to improve the performance of livestock. The term “phytogenic” comes from the Greek “phyto,” meaning plant, and “gene,” meaning to generate or produce. Thus, phytogenic products are plant-based substances that have beneficial effects on animals. Plant extracts, in powdered form, are derived from various parts of plants (leaves, roots, flowers) and are used for their specific properties.

Plant extracts are known for their many useful properties in animal nutrition, aimed at improving digestion and nutrient absorption, enhancing animal performance and growth, reducing stress, and providing comfort to animals—whether thermal, digestive, or otherwise.

Sangrovit®

The active substances in Sangrovit are isoquinoline alkaloids. Alkaloids are characterized by containing at least one nitrogen atom and are derived from amino acid metabolism. In true alkaloids, the nitrogen atom is incorporated into a cyclic structure, typically as a secondary or tertiary amine, or less commonly, as a quaternary ammonium. Thousands of alkaloids are found in plants. Specialists classify alkaloids based on the amino acid from which the plant synthesizes them (lysine, phenylalanine/tyrosine, tryptophan, etc.). The precursor and the mechanism of heterocycle formation determine the existence of many structural groups, such as:

  • Tropanes (e.g., atropine)
  • Pyridines (e.g., nicotine)
  • Isoquinolines, which are very numerous and can range from simple to complex structures
  • Tropolones
  • Indoles
  • Quinolines
  • etc.

Active D®

The main active substance in Active D is calcitriol. Calcitriol is the hormonally active form of vitamin D. Vitamin D is first converted into calcidiol in the liver, and then into calcitriol in the kidneys. Calcitriol is crucial in animal nutrition for the intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate, thereby contributing to the formation and maintenance of bone structure. In animals such as ruminants and pigs, calcitriol promotes bone growth as well as milk production. In the poultry industry, calcitriol is also highly beneficial for the formation and strengthening of eggshells.

The active substances in CAPS C2PG 17X are capsaicinoids. Capsaicinoids are a family of active compounds naturally present in fruits, particularly chili peppers. They are responsible for the spicy sensation experienced when consuming chili. These compounds have effects on metabolism, blood circulation, digestion, and thermoregulation in animals. In animal nutrition, capsaicinoids are used for their bioactive properties, especially their ability to modulate appetite, salivation, and thermal comfort.

In dairy cows, for example, capsaicinoids stimulate the sensory receptors in the oral cavity, which induces a significant increase in salivation. This increased saliva production plays a key role in regulating ruminal pH, promotes better fiber digestion, and helps improve feed efficiency. Enhanced salivation also supports overall rumen health and can contribute to improved milk production performance.

Moreover, capsaicinoids have demonstrated beneficial effects in managing heat stress across various animal species (ruminants, pigs, poultry, etc.). They act notably by stimulating peripheral blood flow and promoting more efficient heat dissipation, helping animals maintain their internal body temperature under hot environmental conditions. By mitigating the impact of heat stress, these plant extracts contribute to animal welfare, feed intake stability, and zootechnical performance.
